  2. A great pic! The fight for his legacy i.e. the Central Kalahari Reserve for the bushmen, goes on.

  3. Please allow me to write a unexpected comment suddenly. I am Mr Tetsuya Suzuki, managing editor of Kyoto University Press, Japan. I am now supporting one publication project tilted "Five Decades Cultural Exploration in Africa" (actually in Japanese "Aflica Bunka Tanken no 50 nen"). The author is Professor Jiro Tanaka, one of most famous scholar with his works on Khoisan (so called Kalahari Bushmen). In his book, Professor Tanaka hopes to introduce Dr Silberbauer's achievements with a portrait. But he has no photo of Dr Silberbauer.
Today, I occasionally find your blog and see Dr Silberbauer's portrait. If permitted, I hope to run this photo in the book. If possible, please let me know how can I use the photo. Thank you.

    1. Sure, you can use the photo with pleasure (maybe with an acknowledgement to the photographer Lisa De Bruin). I have other photos of Dr Silberbauer that might be more suitable for the book. If you email me at alanthorold@gmail.com I can send you a couple to choose from.

  4. I knew George and his family having grown up in Upper Beaconsfield In Victoria. I knew home for many years as he was great friends with my father Eric Bumpstead who was captain on the Upper Beaconsfield CFA stations. George was a officer in the brigade and his knowledge was invaluable. I visited George a couple of years before he passed away at his house with my dad. A man of immense charm and knowledge he is surely missed

  5. Lovely photo of my dear friend George Silberbauer. We corresponded for decades before his passing, after meeting in Botswana at a conference on the effects of drought, held in the late 1970s.
